Connetquot Teachers Association
Hosts Scholarship Awards Ceremony for Essay Contest
Winner
Loretta Powell, President of the Connetquot
Teachers Association (CTA), hosted an awards ceremony
at the organization’s headquarters on May 6th
to honor six Connetquot HS seniors. Ms. Powell, and
Ms. Nancy Dunlop (CTA Coordinator of Community Advocacy),
presented certificates and $500 scholarships to each
of the six students for their winning essays.
For the second year, all Connetquot
HS seniors were eligible to submit a 250 word essay
on the topic ‘The Teacher Who Made A Difference
In My Life’. Hundreds of essays were submitted,
read and graded without the student’s name written
on that essay. Each essay was assigned a number and
when the winning essays were selected the names would
be revealed.
The following student essay winners
were selected, and invited to attend the award ceremony
along with their family, and the teachers who were the
focus of those essays. Anthony Sylvester wrote his essay
about teacher Mrs. Forgione. Brittany Weber believes
Mrs. Krawczyk made a difference in her life. Amanda
Palmetto wrote about Mr. Phillips, while Thomas King
singled out Mrs. Poserina. Heather Edrehi singled out
Mr. Emmerich and Stephanie Philippe credits Mr. Decker
for being such a positive influence.
Ms. Loretta Powell congratulated each
of the winning students, and their families, for submitting
such thoughtful essays about Connetquot educators who
make a difference. Ms. Powell went on to say that “
… Connetquot teachers consider their students
part of a family, and that great care goes into the
professional bond between teachers and their students
.”
Congratulations to each of this year’s
winning essay contest winners.
